Allegiant soars to Red Mile winner’s circle

Allegiant (Scott Zeron) collected her second consecutive Kentucky Championship Series for 2-year-old pacers victory in the division for freshman filly trotters on Tuesday (Sept. 5) at the Red Mile.
The 15-race card also featured two $30,000 fourth-round legs of the Kentucky Commonwealth Series and five $15,000 fourth-round legs of the Kentucky Goldenrod Series.
Allegiant and Zeron employed gate-to-wire tactics to capture a second consecutive win in the Championship event for 2-year-old filly trotters. The daughter of Tactical Approach-Too Good For You proved to be too good for this field of six with a lifetime best 1:52.2 mile. The even-money favorite set fractions of :28.4, :56.4 and 1:24.2 while never seriously threatened. Volcanic Blue Chip (Åke Svanstedt) was 1-1/2 lengths back in second; Special Talent (Dexter Dunn) was third.
Vernon Beachy trains Allegiant for owner Ryan Smith, who purchased her for $50,000 at last year’s Standardbred Horse Sale. She possesses a resume of 8-5-1-0, has banked $183,400, and paid $4.24 to win. Of 15 total foals, Allegiant’s dam has produced nine that have made more than $100,000, including this filly.
