Wilkes-Barre, PA – There were two constants as 3-year-old trotting fillies raced for over $200,000 in two divisions of Pennsylvania Sire Stakes and five divisions of the Pennsylvania Stallion Series at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania during a Sunday (June 14) twilight card. One constant was that there would be no first-round winner repeating in this second preliminary leg; the other was that every winner would set a lifetime mark. Fastest of all the fillies was Frattina Diablo S , a daughter of the hot sire Captain Corey , who proved best in a four-horse PaSS grouping at the wire, stopping the timer in 1:52.1. The Scott Zeron-driven diamond-gaiter, second by a nose in her first prelim, was close-up during a :27.4 opener then brushed to the lead past first-round winner Maya Patel Hanover before a :56.3 half. Nuance started an uncovered bid before a 1:24.3 three-quarters, and as the field came through the stretch, there were two inside the favored leader, Maya Patel Hanover and Little Road to that’s one left, and the raw Nuance to the outside. Frattina Diablo S showed grit while trotting her last quarter in :27.3, warding off the 20-1 shot Little Road in the deep Pocono Pike by a neck, with Maya Patel Hanover another neck back and just getting the show nod in a picture with Nuance. Oak Grove, KY — Defending champion Hunterton Sold Captain Arturovico nabbed win in the third preliminary of Kentucky Sire Stakes (KYSS) action for trainer Ron Burke at Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel for 4-year-olds on Monday (June 15) as they now eye a series sweep into the $150,000 finals next week. Captain Arturovico (driven by Dexter Dunn) opened the afternoon’s KYSS action with a 1:50.4 win in the first division for pacing horses and geldings. Dunn settled the 3-5 favorite into third while Banderas (Yannick Gingras) fired for the top to a :27.1 first quarter and carried his speed to a :55 half. Banderas continued on the muscle up the backstretch as Captain Arturovico lifted off the pegs and advanced up the rim marching for three-quarters in 1:23.1. Captain Arturovico then slid to the lead in the stretch and held firmly for a one-length win over Falcon (Marcus Miller), who closed from off cover for second. Fusion (Todd McCarthy) rallied from a pocket trip for third and Banderas settled for fourth. A gelding by Captaintreacherous -Tilikum, Captain Arturovico races for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, Larry Karr and Phil Collura. He collected his third win of the season, all of which have come in this KYSS series, and his 15th win from 40 starts in his career, good for $440,809 in earnings. He paid $3.40 to win.

Dexter Dunn captured the $40,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Silver final for 3-year-old trotting fillies at The Meadowlands, teaming Carter Pinske trainee Hunterton Born & Sold Brattitude , a daughter of Tactical Landing -Love Muffin, to a 1:52.3 win for the partnership of Robert LeBlanc, David Anderson, Pryde Stables Inc. and John Fielding.

East Rutherford, NJ — After coming up just short of stablemate American Power in his 2026 debut last week, divisional Dan Patch Award winner Apex absolutely looked the part of a 1-9 favorite in his second seasonal showing, posting a career-best 1:50.3 win in Friday’s (June 12) $225,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Platinum Division final for 3-year-old male trotters at the Meadowlands. Dexter Dunn was in no hurry early with the Walner -Mission Brief colt, landing in fifth on approach to the first turn as Diabolic Hill (driven by Todd McCarthy) and American Power (Mattias Melander) advanced to dispute the early lead. Following a brief pocket tuck behind Diabolic Hill, American Power pushed forward to control a :27.4 first quarter before yielding to Diabolic Hill on the backstretch. Meanwhile, Dunn and Apex were lurking on the outside after angling off the pegs midway on the first turn and gradually floating forward, and they accelerated to take charge at the :55.2 halfway station. On the far turn, American Power began a second move when Ardonne (Scott Zeron) flushed him out with five-sixteenths to go, but he could only offer mild pressure to Apex past the 1:23.3 three-quarters before leveling off in the stretch. Apex was kept to his task by mild Dunn encouragement in mid-stretch, and he threw down a :27 closing sectional to keep Diabolic Hill’s inside bid a half length at bay with plenty in reserve. American Power protected third, another 3 lengths in arrears. Apex and driver Dexter Dunn repelled an inside challenge from Diabolic Hill to capture the New Jersey Sire Stakes Platinum Division final for 3-year-old male trotters. “He had a great year last year, but he’s definitely matured a lot,” said Dunn of Apex. “We were out until the half, and when he got the front, he was marching on and feeling great. … Hopefully this guy’s on track for another good season.” A seven-time winner from 11 starts, Apex has earned $990,548 for Jeffrey Snyder, S R F Stable and Steve Stewart. The Marcus Melander trainee paid $2.20 to win. 

Milton, ON – Hunterton Born Miki And Minnie , sent on her way as the 8-5 choice, rocketed home to take all the spoils in the Grade 1 C$320,000 Roses Are Red final at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday (June 13). Miki And Minnie, with James MacDonald in the race bike, sat an unhurried fifth through a :26 first quarter carved out by Skywalker Sea in the pacing fixture for fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up. Grit N Grace tracked in second, followed by The Last Martini and Twin B Joe Fresh, winner of the past two editions of the race. ​ Skywalker Sea continued to control the flow, while Twin B Joe Fresh was directed to the outside by Dexter Dunn ahead of a half in :54.1. Milton, ON – Hunteron Born Miki And Minnie was a winner in Saturday evening’s (June 6) Roses Are Red eliminations at Woodbine Mohawk Park. The older pacing mares for the Roses Are Red delivered a pair of exciting splits to determine the field of 10 for next Saturday’s $C220,000 Grade 1 final.  Miki And Minnie and driver James MacDonald converted off a second-over trip to win the second elimination in 1:50.2. Getting away fourth, the Chris Ryder-trained Miki And Minnie was able to follow The Last Martini around the last turn in that second-over position as Aardie B Miki N cut out fractions of :26.2, :55.1 and 1:23.1. In the stretch, Miki And Minnie muscled by The Last Martini to pick up her first win as a 4-year-old. The Last Martini held second, while Absolution got up for third at 25-1. The top five finishers were rounded out by Talk Curdy To Me and Skywalker Sea. A daughter of Always B Miki , Miki And Minnie is now 1-for-2 to start her 4-year-old campaign. Grove City, OH – Northfield Park Racino hosted five $20,000 divisions each of the second leg of the Buckeye Stallion Series for sophomore colt pacers and trotters on Saturday (June 6). Hunterton Born & Sold Thunder Jam (Miller) won the first division by one and a quarter lengths in 1:53.3 for trainer Tim Twaddle and owner Timothy Billow. Global (Dan Noble) and Willow Dale (Trevor Smith) rounded out the top three. Thunder Jam, a Downbytheseaside gelding, holds a 4-4-2 career record with $83,320 in earnings in 16 starts.

Wilkes-Barre, PA – Hunterton Bred, Born & Sold Endurance , the trotting colt who was outstanding at 2 and has continued on at 3 to be one of the favorites for the Hambletonian, was again impressive at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon (June 6), when he won his $50,502 division of the second prelim of his group’s Pennsylvania Sire Stakes. Endurance, who gave sire Captain Corey a Sire Stakes credit in addition to the two he earned in Stallion Series competition Saturday, went his mile in 1:51.4, equaling the fastest trotting time of the year at Pocono. Andrew McCarthy, routing his schedule for a cameo appearance in northeast Pennsylvania before going on to Ontario, was away fifth with the winner and stayed in that position as 113-1 shot Oversear blistered early numbers of :26.1 and :54.3. When McCarthy gave the world to Endurance down the backstretch, the horse quickly went into higher gear, and when pocket-sitter Geologic moved out late down the back to avoid a pocket shuffle, McCarthy gave no thought to cover and steamed on three-wide to circle to command just past a 1:23 three-quarters. No one could go with Endurance through the stretch, Geologic was 3-1/4 lengths back at the finish, and Endurance looked shut down at the wire. Apex may have gotten the decision over Endurance in the 2025 Mohawk Million and Spencer Hanover just got by in the 2026 Oak Grove Trotting Derby final, but trainer Chris Beaver and owners Super Endurance Stable, Bill Manes, Leo Fleming, and Mark Moger have had their horse give no indication that they still shouldn’t be looking forward to the $1 million Grade 1 Hambletonian on Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Meadowlands. The other PaSS division was won by the undefeated Greenshoe gelding Highland Destiny, unraced at 2 but now perfect in four 2026 starts after a 1:54.1 victory in his $50,102 division. The winner was taken back early by driver Scott Zeron from the outermost post 7 after many others inside stepped away well, but after a quarter in :27.3 and just before a half in a pedestrian :57, Highland Destiny started a sustained big-time uncovered move, going from fifth to first before the 1:25 third split (own third quarter :27.1 raw) and opened daylight. Minoan, who had shown early speed, got stuck behind a tired horse on the far turn as Highland Destiny got a big advantage, but once clear he swung out then back in the stretch inside the leader. But his steady charge failed by just a head, with Highland Destiny having enough to take the triumph for trainer Nancy Takter and Highland Thoroughbred Farm. As mentioned, Captain Corey sired two of the winners in the three $20,000 Stallion Series sections – which like the Sire Stakes generated no horse who won both his prelims. In the Stallion Series, Tim Tetrick drove two of the three winners, including the fastest in Captain Jordan. The colt left for position, quickstepped a :27.2 individual third quarter to clear to command and won by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:54.3, like the other StS winners taking a new mark. Captain Jordan is owned by Joseph Faraldo and the Triple D Stables Inc., of trainer Scott Di Domenico, now only four wins shy of 3,000 career victories. Tetrick and Captain Corey earned another credit with Captainforlife AS, a gelding who won in 1:54.4. Captainforlife AS brushed to the lead in front of the stands the first time and went on to win by 3-3/4 lengths for trainer Anette Lorentzon and ACL Stuteri AB. Rounding out the Stallion Series winners was the International Moni gelding Nose Jammer, who returned 11-1 despite this being his 11th career victory – he was one of the top fair horses in PA at 2 – after coming up the Pocono Pike to nose out Drambuie Hanover (the first four were within a half-length) in 1:55.3 for driver Andy Miller and trainer Todd Schadel, the latter co-owner with wife Christine. The Somebeachsomewhere gelding Ruthless Hanover is still the fastest horse ever on a five-eighths-mile track with his 1:46.3 mile at Harrah’s Philadelphia at age 6, and three years later at age 9 he still retains much talent, going to the top in a $20,000 fast-class pace and lighting up the board with splits of :26.2, :54, and 1:20.1 for driver George Napolitano Jr. en route to a 1:48.1 tally, the fastest mile of the year at Pocono. It’s hard to believe that Ruthless Hanover had not already achieved millionaire status, but with this victory the star for Team Cancelliere – trainer Tom and owner John – brought his bankroll to $1,004,089. We mentioned Endurance as a top contender for the Hambletonian – the big Saturday card also featured a Top 10 contender for the Meadowlands Pace, the Always B Miki gelding Always B Charlie, who won in 1:51.2 on the front end for driver Scott Zeron, trainer Nancy Takter, and owner Upstart Racing. Anthony Napolitano was top horseman on the day with three winners; doubles were achieved by drivers Tyler Buter, Tim Tetrick, and Scott Zeron, and trainers Deborah Daguet, Nancy Takter (both driven by Zeron) and Darren Taneyhill (both driven by Anthony Napolitano). The second of nine consecutive 5 p.m. (EDT) twilight Sunday cards is the next program at Pocono, with separate $15,500 events for up-and-coming male pacers and for the top claiming pacing horses on the grounds.

Hamburg, NY – The New York Sire Stakes and Excelsior Series make their first appearances of the 2026 season at Buffalo Raceway on Wednesday afternoon (June 3) and the traveling series will start off with a big bang. The 3-year-old colt and gelding pacers, the “Glamour Division,” will take the opening spot as eight sophomore gentlemen will battle for a $121,800 bounty in the sixth race on the 15-race program that gets underway at 2:30 p.m. (EDT). It’s the first of seven consecutive Wednesday afternoons that will feature NYSS and Excelsior Series action. The field is highlighted by Hunterton Bred, Born & Sold Fragment , who was the 2-year-old New York Sire Stakes champion. A winner of $627,906 lifetime, Fragment won the final in 2025 at Batavia Downs on Sept. 6 in a track-record time of 1:52.1 as he rode the pocket then blitzed past the front-running Knoxville and registered the 6-3/4-length score. Fragment ( Huntsville -The Show Returns), who is set to start from post 7 for driver Jason Bartlett and trainer Per Engblom, had an adventurous journey at Saratoga in his seasonal debut on May 24. Both headpoles came loose before the start of the $84,000 NYSS event but driver Colin Kelly was able to right the ship and Fragment was able to coast to a 3-1/4- length victory over Fearless Partners in a snappy 1:51.4 time. Ironically, Fragment won his NYSS event at Buffalo Raceway in 2025 from the 7-hole. Unmatched Wisdom (American Ideal-Above Average) drew post 2 and enters a perfect 6-for-6 on the season, including a half-length victory over Mighty Matt in the $82,500 NYSS at Saratoga. He went a lifetime best of 1:52.1 for trainer Chuck Connor Jr. Unmatched Wisdom will have the services of Leon Bailey in the bike. Another one to keep an eye on is Knoxville ( Huntsville -Let’s Fall In Love), who finished third in last year’s NYSS finals. He finished third, a length behind Unmatched Wisdom, at Saratoga in his last appearance. Knoxville got post 4 for driver Tyler Buter and trainer Ray Schnittker. Mighty Matt ( Huntsville -Valentina De Vie) has been in the money nine out of 10 lifetime starts but is saddled with the outside 8 post. Driver Braxten Boyd will try to overcome the draw for conditioner Cameron Capone. The rest of the field includes Hunthehuntr De Vie (Mark Herschberger), Rocket City Smitty (Ridge Warren), Twin B Manhunt (Kevin Cummings) and Fearless Partners (Drew Monti). There will be a trio of $20,000 Excelsior Series paces for the young men, which will go off as the first, seventh and eighth races.
