Unreasonable Tops Five Track Records on Oak Grove KYSS Final Day

July 14, 2025

Oak Grove, KY — The near $1-million day of Kentucky Sire Stakes (KYSS) finals at Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel on Monday (July 14) saw five track-record performances, the fastest of which came in a powerhouse romp by Erv Miller trainee Unreasonable to win the $100,000 final for 3-year-old pacing fillies in 1:49.4.

Driver Marcus Miller motored Hunterton Bred, Born and Sold Unreasonable to the top through a :26 first quarter and pocketed Reckless Abandon (driven by Todd McCarthy) moving past the grandstand for the first time. Odds-on chalk Odds On Chesapeake (Dexter Dunn) abandoned her leave attempt and landed fourth out of post seven, but tried to claw first over after a :55 half. Miller accelerated with Unreasonable up the backstretch and started to peel away from the competition through three-quarters in 1:22.1. Odds On Chesapeake retreated as the others fought to hold position in behind widening winner Unreasonable. She crossed the line under wraps and 4-1/2 lengths better than Reckless Abandon in second. Accede (Yannick Gingras) grabbed third while Caviart Delight (Scott Zeron) closed widest of all for fourth.

Unreasonable, who matched the track record for 3-year-old pacing fillies of 1:49.4 set by Charleston in 2023, won her third race from four starts this season and her sixth race from 15 starts in her career. Erv Miller trains the daughter of Huntsville for owners Ervin Miller Stable Inc. and David J. Miller. She has earned $260,582 and paid $6.52 to win.

Hunterton Bron and Sold Yannick G Kemp (Todd McCarthy) won the first KYSS final of the day, the $100,000 KYSS 3-Year-Old Colt and Gelding Trot, in a track-record time with a surprise front-stepping performance at odds of 17-1. Having to return to the paddock before the race for a shoe repair, Yannick G Kemp came back to the track, went behind the gate and uncorked great speed to land on the point out of post six through a :27.3 first quarter. With his competition just trying to find a rhythm in behind, Yannick G Kemp coasted by a :56.2 half and through three-quarters in 1:24.1 with a strong lead coming for home. My Degenerate (Dexter Dunn), the 4-5 favorite, tried to rush first up late before losing stride, which left Yannick G Kemp alone to coast in a two-length winner in 1:52.3. Te Quiero Lindy (Andy McCarthy) sat a pocket trip for second with Big Shoes (Yannick Gingras) closing for third and Grande Via (David Miller) in fourth. Richard “Nifty” Norman trains Yannick G Kemp, a 3-year-old colt by Walner , for owners Melvin Hartman, ROjan Stables and Little E LLC. In winning his seventh race from 22 starts, Yannick G Kemp padded his bankroll to $214,889 while also lowering the track record for 3-year-old trotting colts of 1:53 set by Brodeur in 2023. He paid $36.04 to win.

Oak Grove, KY — The near $1-million day of Kentucky Sire Stakes (KYSS) finals at Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel on Monday (July 14) saw five track-record performances. Hunterton Bred, Born and Sold Endurance (Andy McCarthy) beat his own track record that he set one week ago in winning the $100,000 KYSS 2-Year-Old Colt and Gelding Trot at the end of the card. McCarthy plowed past San Patricio (Scott Zeron) through a :27 first quarter to lead the field through a :56.1 half and to three-quarters in 1:24.4. San Patricio trotted level for home, but Silverstein (David Miller) emerged out of third to take a shot at Endurance. McCarthy gave his charge a few taps of the whip and Endurance held by three-quarter lengths at the end of a 1:53.2 mile over Silverstein. San Patricio chased in third and Zephyr Kemp (Dexter Dunn) settled for fourth. Chris Beaver trains Endurance, a colt by Captain Corey , for himself and co-owners Bill Manes, Leo Fleming and Mark Moger. He collected his second win from three starts — his first win in 1:54.3 beat the previous track record for 2-year-old colts by a fifth of a second — and has now earned $73,200. He paid $3.36 to win.

Wilkes-Barre, PA — There were three $30,000 divisions of a Pennsylvania All-Stars event for two-year-old pacing fillies on the Sunday twilight card at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania, and all three of the winners scored in identical times of 1:53.4. Two of the fillies were sired by the hot Papi Rob Hanover , and one of them recorded her second straight win in 1:53.4, so we’ll lead with her. That would be Hunterton Born and Sold Call Me Angelita (Tim Tetrick), who was second in her purse debut while covering her own back half in :54.3, then won easily last week. Here driver Tetrick could sit third until the three-quarters, from where she made a wicked brush home to just get by the pacesetting Kissedbyastranger (Yannick Gingras) by a neck, coming her own back fractions in :55 – :26.3. Scott Di Domenico conditions the fleet filly for Triple D And Oompa Farm, Michael Rekoon, Craig Henderson, and Steve Stewart.

East Rutherford, NJ – Top betting choice Yo Tillie took top billing in their respective $141,600 Del Miller Memorial division, for 3-year-old trotting fillies, at The Meadowlands on Saturday night (July 12). Hunterton Sold Yo Tillie landed on top of a half-mile shuffle and muscled to another dominant victory in trotting a 1:51 mile to win her $141,600 division of the Del Miller Memorial. Driver Todd McCarthy accelerated off the wings with Yo Tillie but floated five wide into the first turn. Champagne Problems pushed hardest for the early lead, but relinquished control past a :27 first quarter to Best Friends Girl and Deja Blu then loomed forward on the rim with Yo Tillie on her back. Deja Blu took over the lead before Yo Tillie finally thrusted to the top past a :55.1 half. Though Yo Tillie travelled wide for the entirety of the first half, she began peeling away from the competition on the march to three-quarters in 1:23.3 and spun for home on an open-length lead. Lady Landia encroached with a late burst of speed from the back of the pack to grab second, beaten 3-1/2 lengths, while Walspea also emerged from the backfield with an outside grind for third. R Charm closed for fourth. “I figured there would be a bit of action in that first quarter,” winning driver Todd McCarthy said. “There was a little more than I was hoping, but I think everyone had the same game plan; they wanted to follow her. It just kind of worked out that we ended up finding the front past the half there.” A daughter of Tactical Landing out of the Triumphant Caviar mare Consolidator, Yo Tillie stayed unbeaten from three tries this season while collecting her 11th victory from 15 starts, good for $408,539 in earnings. Andrew Harris trains and shares ownership of Yo Tillie with Bill Pollock and Bruce Areman, all of whom acquired this filly from Verlin Yoder after her 2-year-old season. Ineligible to the Hambletonian Oaks, Harris said Yo Tillie’s next targets are the Kentucky Champion Series at The Red Mile followed by the Delmonica Hanover at Pocono Downs and other stakes to which she could supplement late in the year. Sent off the 1-9 favorite, Yo Tillie paid $2.20 to win.

Washington, PA – Blue skies and high temperatures provided the classic midsummer afternoon for rookie trotters to take their first swings at the bigtime with four Stallions Series divisions and three divisions of the Hickory Pride Stakes at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows Saturday (July 12). The Anthony Macdonald and Tim Twaddle connection struck early and fast as Hunterton Sold Rico Tubbs and Macdonald left the two hole just past the three quarters on their way to a four-length romp in the days first race. An $11,000 Lexington purchase for owner The Stable, Rico Tubbs and Hutchinson Harness LLC of Ohio, the 1:57.3 effort by the gelded son of Father Patrick was the fastest of the four divisions.

Chester, PA – Greenshoe sired four out of the five stakes winners at Harrah’s Philadelphia on Friday (July 11) afternoon (unfortunately for future breeders, three of his quartet of winners are geldings, including both winners in the third preliminary leg of the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes for sophomore trotting males). The fourth Greenshoe winner was Hunterton Sold Green Mel , and second-time Lasix he made every pole a winning one in 1:55.4 – :57 – :28.2 for driver Andy Miller, trainer Julie Miller, and the combine of Willow Oak Racing LLC, Michael Anderson, and Andy Miller Stable Inc.

All three winners in the Stallion Series action had raced in an All-Stars event at Pocono on May 18, but in the intervening 54 days, two had raced twice, and one once – yet the trio, with no previous StS victories among them, still beat seven other horses (one a doubler) who had previously won Stallion Series races. The Greenshoe that equaled the 1:54.2 quickest of these miles (and is the sole colt of the four winners for that sire), Hunterton Born and Sold Manoah , was hard-used but still tallied for trainer Anette Lorentzon, owner Courant Inc. and meet-leading driver Tim Tetrick, giving him a win in both of the stakes sections while coming home first four times overall on the day.

Hunterton Bred, Born and Sold Fragment ($2.70) stole the headlines in the New York Sire Stakes for 2-year-old colt and gelding pacers on Wednesday afternoon (July 9) at Buffalo Raceway. He showed that his victory in the New York Sire Stakes at Yonkers Raceway on June 16 was no fluke, as he made it two straight victories with a length win over Lakewood Nick in his $54,500 division. Fragment won in his career debut at Yonkers with an easy four-length decision in 1:55.1. At Buffalo Raceway, he made it look just as easy. Starting from post seven, Fragment was cautiously guided around the first turn by driver Jason Bartlett due to the early inside speed and the breaking Killing Joke. But once maneuvering through the opening turn, Bartlett stepped on the pedal and Fragment responded perfectly, hitting the opening panel in :28.2. With fractions of :57.3 and 1:27 in the books, Fragment just had to deal with Lakewood Nick (Jody Jamieson) and Ideal Rebel (Tyler Buter) down the stretch. While the pair managed to cut slightly into the lead, they couldn’t mount a serious rally as Fragment safely crossed the wire in front. Co-owned by the Engblom Stable LLC and Douglas Sipple, Fragment ( Huntsville -The Show Returns) is trained by Per Engblom and is a perfect two-for-two in his career, amassing $65,900 in earnings thanks to his NYSS victories.

Hunterton, Bred, Born and Sold Grande Via (Yannick Gingras) blitzed 6-5 leader Te Quiero Lindy (Andy Miller) at an opportune point of the final turn to bag a wrapped-up win in the quickest mile of the three KYSS divisions for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings. Gingras secured the pocket to Te Quiero Lindy, who carved a tempo of :27.3, :57.1 and 1:25.3 while unfettered on the point. As Miller gave his charge a few taps of the whip to the final turn, Gingras fanned off the pegs and slid forward to put a head in front spinning for home. Grande Via held his advantage over Te Quiero Lindy in the sprint to the finish to cross the beam a half length better in a 1:54.3 mile while Sky Legacy (Dexter Dunn) took third and Beaujolais Breeze (David Miller) finished fourth. Andrew Harris trains Grande Via, a colt by Muscle Hill , and shares ownership with William Pollock and Bruce Areman. He broke his maiden with the victory, his 16th outing in the career, and paid $21.76 to win.

Oak Grove, KY — Sent the 1-5 favorite, Hunterton Bred, Born and Sold Unreasonable journeyed first-up on the rim and easily ground down her competition to post the top mile of Tuesday afternoon’s (July 8) Kentucky Sire Stakes (KYSS) events at Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel in winning her division for 3-year-old pacing fillies. Driver Marcus Miller landed in fourth out of post three with Unreasonable as Duration (driven by Scott Zeron) ripped from the outermost post to the lead into a :26.1 first quarter. Duration continued on the muscle to a :54.3 half, where Miller readied Unreasonable for a move off the pylons approaching the backstretch. Unreasonable marched forward under wraps and zipped past Duration through three-quarters in 1:23 before then scooting away in the lane and win by 2-3/4 lengths in 1:52. Treacheryinthedark (Todd McCarthy) followed the winner’s move from second-over for second while Accede (Yannick Gingras) tipped out of a pocket ride to grab third and Baret (Andy McCarthy) closed for fourth. A daughter of Huntsville , Unreasonable collected her fifth win from 14 starts and has now earned $210,582 for owners Ervin Miller Stable Inc. and David J. Miller. She paid $2.46 to win. Driver Geremy Bobbitt scored the biggest win of his young career when he steered owner-trainer Rod DeBeck’s Captain Arturovico to a 16-1 upset in the fastest division of the KYSS for 3-year-old pacing colts and geldings. Bobbitt found a second-over ride after 3-5 favorite Ayeaye Captain Deo (Todd McCarthy) cut early fractions of :27.3 and :55.4. Falcon (Marcus Miller) pressed first-up on the rim and matched strides with Ayeaye Captain Deo through three-quarters in 1:25.1 while Bobbitt loomed three-wide for the stretch drive. Captain Arturovico built momentum in the stretch as Falcon jumped into a gallop, and he surged forward to collar Ayeaye Captain Deo by a head in the closing strides of a 1:53 mile. Bourbon County (Dexter Dunn) finished third and Handsome Stranger (Andy McCarthy) closed for fourth. Captain Arturovico, a gelding by Captaintreacherous , has now won seven times from 10 starts this season and eight times from 19 starts in his career, earning $76,509. He paid $34.60 to win. Grande Via (Yannick Gingras) blitzed 6-5 leader Te Quiero Lindy (Andy Miller) at an opportune point of the final turn to bag a wrapped-up win in the quickest mile of the three KYSS divisions for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings. Admiring (David Miller) put her rivals to sleep with a pillar-to-post win in the faster of the two KYSS division for 3-year-old trotting fillies. Despite starting from post seven, Miller crossed over to the lead just entering the first turn and posted fractions of :27.2, :56.2 and 1:25.1 in progress to a widening victory by four lengths. Belmont (Dexter Dunn) gave futile chase from a pocket trip in second but did just hold off late-charging 1-2 favorite Ms Prada (Yannick Gingras), who took third. Get It All (Mattias Melander) finished another four lengths behind in fourth. Richard “Nifty” Norman trains Admiring, a filly by Walner , for owners Tony Holmes and June Zent. She won her fourth race from 19 starts, has now earned $108,650 and paid $15.72 to win. Racing at Oak Grove continues on Sunday (July 13) for closing week of the 2025 meet. Monday’s (July 14) card will feature the eight finals of KYSS for 2- and 3-year-olds of both gaits and sexes, with total purses for that day close to $1 million.
